15 pounder friction tubes

A friend of mine has a Anglo Boer War Museum and has asked me to check if any one has any information on these. We believe them to be spent / used Friction Tubes for the 15 pounder used during this war.

Are we correct in this assumption?

Was it used on any other guns / calibres?

Any other information will be welcome.

Diagrams of friction tubes MkI, MkIV and MkIII (yours). MkI is mentionnend in Handbook for 15Pr gun MkI 1896, MkIII is mentionned in Handbook for 15Pr MkII to IV 1901.

This shows how the friction tubes were packed, ten to a tin (five on top; five on bottom).
The tin was found at Modder River and brought home by Lieut. H.S. Gladstone, 3rd King's Own Scottish Borderers.
The tubes were found on Naval Hill (near Hart's Hill Falls, on the Tugela River), on 12th August 1981.
