I think all the horrible black paint did a good preservation job.

All INERT and empty.

Hi Dave,

That's a great improvement on your initial purchase, may I ask what you used for the rust treatment? I would not have thought you could have improved it as much as you have. Was is wire brush and a chemical wash as may have to try your method out for myself.

Hi Stuart, thanks, the only bad rust was below the driving band so only the base of the shell and a tiny band of steel. The area above the band once the paint was removed was surprisingly good. Wire brush used to remove the paint then 12 hours in the hammerite rust remover dip (see link below) and once dry a rub down with oil.
In all about an hours work.
