I picked this up today. It was not expensive $35 = 22pounds, but it has suffered
some what. The bottom has been replaced and it has weathered to a grey colour.
Surprisingly the stencilling is still clear except on the top where oil has darkened
the wood. So how do I restore some colour to the wood, a touch of light pine stain ?
How should I , if it can be done get the darkened oil out of the wood so the top
is easier to read. I can make out a little of the end grain stamp, but not the date.
So I don't know if it's a ww1 box reused or a late 30s box which I rather expect.
Wire handles rather than rope if that makes a difference ( I thought that was a
Navy thing).
Comments welcome.
