18 Pounder Navy marking ??

Yesterday I picked up a bunch off shell casings. And there is one 18 pounder with the lot that has a anchor marking on the headstamp. Does anyone know off a Navy use for the 18 pounder or did some one put a anchor mark on this one to make it "more interesting", but it looks real to me. Broadarrow yes but no N mark.

Hi Michel,

I don't think the 18-Pdr was ever in Naval use, but I have seen this anchor mark on other cases made by Kynoch, so I think it might well be an Inspector's stamp.

Roger.

Hello Roger,

This could be the answer, not so good for my navy collection (unless the inspector was a retired admiral). It explains the lack off info on any navy use off 18 pounders. I will look for a new home for it.

Thanks for you help.

Greets Michel
