18 Pr HE cart case with original paint & stencils

Here’s an 18 Pr case I picked up recently. Pretty common 1917 EOC made case with a Canadian primer, but it still retains reasonably good paint and stencils.
RDB8 Cordite propellant, Lot G2042, National Filling Factory F2 (Aintree, Liverpool), filling date 11/9/18. But does anyone know what the Mk(?) XXXIX (39) relates to? A filling method perhaps?
