As found on ebay, These components must have been taken from the final assembly before filling and final marking. The main thing is the original OD paint. For some reason these rounds just don't show up in this finish. The fuses are unmarked and are missing their tips which is the only restoration needed. (if any one has scrap M56 fuzes with good tips let me know) The fuses are likely internally bugger'd due to the lamp shaft, but I will leave them be I think. This type of case and projectile with large primer hole and large tracer opening in the base and fuze in three sections are about the most lamp friendly there is fortunately.

Hi they look like 40 mm cases , at lot over the years have been butchered to make Trench Art , which i believe is the modern term for anything of ordnance made into something else , i bet when they are polished and laquered they will look superb.

Potential !

They look like they have a lot of potential to convert back to almost original condition !

Very nice find especially on E Bay.

Keep us posted as to what you will do with them.

They are 37x145r cases

The 40mm cases are much longer, these have been varnished but it will come off of everything except the projectiles, removing it might ruin the OD which is the most important part. from the drawing (it looks like they didn't know what the primer really looked like) you can see that the case and projectile were relatively undamaged, but the fuse suffered more, needing a replacement upper tip. I usually leave cases as they are or clean them once then let them darken, I would go mad (madder) trying to keep the lot polished. The only lacquared/varnished ( I need to find spell check on this site - Help) cases are the wartime steel ones.
