12b was issued for clay shooting to train air gunners, sometimes with tracer. It was also issued for use on airfields to remove/scare birds, and in both cases No.6 shot was the size usually issued.

That would explain it. Were the 12 Bore guns issued standardised or off the civilian market?

there are no numbers on the liner
