1944 Metal container used for ?

I was unable to get an image of it. The markings are;

C298 CAN
TSC/C 1944

31 inches long, 8 1/2 inches wide and 8 1/2 inches deep, outside measurements.

In original green.

details are not in my RAOS dated 1944, might be for something used only by Canadians
