Can anyone tell me about the headstamp on this 40 x 158mmR Naval AP-HE dated 1918, the headstamp has been over polished and not easy to photograph,it reads
GUNS & 9.5 IN,DCT /18 thanks in advance

Try googling 2pr sub calibre guns the Iaai have some posts on there you can look at LA refers to low angle training systems

Googled it but no reference to the headstamp i am trying to find the meaning of, i think it might be for subcal use
 
look up on BOCN under depth charge thrower cartridges and click on bomb thrower. Shows the 2pr case like yours.
 
My own eg of what I suspect is yr case reads:- 2PR 1-111 GUNS & 9.5 IN.DCT Mine shows Lot 12, CF, /18, N, and maker G O C.
