Hi,
does anybody has some info on this round? It`s a 20x139 round with a anti personnell projectile.
If someone has a drawing of this round or other info, please let me know!

Regards, Cornman

Hi Cornman,
I would say you have a German Diehl manufactured 20 x 139mm DM 111 Shrapnel round.
This round has a striker, cap and delay element in the base of the projectile ( delay is about 40ms )with a ejection tube and extension tube on top filled with a number of small metal balls. The extension tube is prefragmented to increase it's effect, all this is topped with a ballistic cap that will be pushed off by the action of the previously mentioned parts.

I see that the projectile has DE 111 stamped on it can find a match for that only DM 111, and as far as i can tell out of all the manufactures this is the only company that makes a shrapnel shell for this round.

Best regards Weasel.

20x139 section

Janes ammunition handbook 1994-1995 has a sectioned view of the Diehl DM111 shrapnell round but its pretty small and I doubt it will reproduce. I dont think its anti personell but more likely anti missile as penetration is given against F40 dural.

Hi 2pounder,
I was reading from the 1999-2000 edition and the picture is the same as is the spec you give for armour penetration. Designation being given as Shrapnel which is somewhat open ended.
Best Weasel.

20mm shrap

Somehow Weasel I thought you might be reading Janes, well worth having if you are into modern stuff not that I am but was offered a copy at 10 so couldn't refuse.
Cornman have you thought about writing to Deihl sales or customer services what ever they have their web site should give a clue and say your interested to see they made a shrapnel round and you are researching the use of shrapnell in earlier wars and can they let you have a copy of a picture you've seen in Janes. You never know you might get lucky.

Cornman, you are very lucky. This is the DE111 which is the "Deutsches Erprobungsmodell" what is basically a "round under evaluation". Not that the DM111 is basically impossibe to find as it was never adopted by anybody you got the test model of it.
A pristine example and probably the rarest 20x139 ever.
Back in my active medium caliber days I had about 50-60 20x139 but never got my hands on one of these. Luckily I gave it up long ago...

Means I am lucky too, just bought one on yesterday's collectors meeting for 60 euro's. I did not know it was an ""erprobungsmodell", I thought it was a normal used type of cartridge

Hello,

Thank you! Sorry for my late response.
I have been a time not active on this forum.
Meanwhile I have my collection brought to an unprecedented high.
I've been lucky enough to buy two beautiful collections.
From now on I only collect only 20mm x 139.
The boxes, links, and cartridge magazines.
I'm happy owner of two DM111 patterns.
I have also heard that there is a party created for America.
Four years ago, these were offered at an ammunition dump. General Equipment in Miami.
20mm Rh 202 DELETE: $ 550 for a pattern band of 100 pieces.
I have now really beautiful specimens in my collection.
From Argentina, America, South Africa, Switzerland, Norway, Germany.
See the photos.

best regards Ramon

Hello Good morning Tony.

Those bullets are rare.... I've never encountered in the years that I collect them.

I know they are made.

The question of yours I forwarded to Germany.
Here lives the specialist who has collected this for over 50 years.

If I know the answer then I post it.

Best regards Ramon

Good morning Tony,

Unfortunately ... I have to disappoint you. No information.
The answer from Germany: I've never seen English / Oerlikon 20 x 139.
You have a few unique bullet casings Tony.
These are very rare.
Would you like to post some pictures of the head stamps?
I'm curious how they look like.

Best Regards Ramon
