Not a long time ago, I've read that a '22pdr high lethality shell' was in the works for the 25pdr gun. Does anyone have some better information about that shell, or any late-war or post-war HE shell of a new design for the 25pdr gun?
From my notes: The X5E1 post-war, a 3.45" gun design with increased MV and range vs the 25pdr - developed by GKN. The intended 22 lb HE round was what would probably be called a High Capacity HE shell with improved fragmentation and blast effect. Neither entered service.
Saying it had mproved fragmentation is interesting, as the 25pdr HE fragmentation was considered to be pretty good.
