Hi, I have a german 24cm railway cartridge, just wondering if anyone could tell me what these strange patches are on the brass? Looks like white-ish and very tiny pits in the brass.

Thankyou

probably some sort of corrosion/reaction to something when the case was standing on the ground or similar for along time

I've seen that on cases that have been stood on concrete. The Alkaline in the concrete can react with the brass leading to corrosion. When its cleaned it looks like your case.

Dave.

Cheers for the reply guys. It's hardly noticeable, only when looking close. I'm in two minds weather to clean/buff the pits out and start again. Although, it's sat on carpet now so hopefully won't get any worse.
