There's nothing I hate more than going to a gun show without enough money in my pocket to buy the nuclear warhead that shows up there! Such was the case at the recent Small Arms Review Show in Phoenix, Arizona a few weeks ago.

I only know of 3 or 4 of thes.e practice warheads for the Davy Crockett atomic recoilless rifle in private collections and this was easily the best I've seen. A couple friends were guided toward the round and one eventually bought it when I couldn't. Better to have it "in the family" than sold to a stranger and never seen again. And he might just get tired of it someday and sell it to me later:tinysmile_shy_t:.

The base had the fuze setting ring intact but the whole upper end was gutted. The upper half is constructed of fiberglas with the lower tail and fins being aluminum. For realistic practice loading, I assume it originally had a simulated core to add weight and give a reason for the 1" diameter white center-of -gravity markings. Any of those internal bits are now gone. But it sure looks great on the outside.

Just thought you guys might like to see one that got away.

Very cool item, thanks for showing it.
At least you know where it is, always a good thing.
Dave.

'Small Arms Review'....279mm is small arms in the US? ,Guess that covers you when you say, 'oh, i only collect small arms ammo'! :tinysmile_fatgrin_t

Sorry, I forgot to include that detail. The seller was originally asking $2000 and I think it changed hands for about $1200 or $1300.

"Small arms" (mostly "small arms and light weapons") is not defined by caliber nor does it even say "cartridge" - as many times argued here about. It is about the size/weight and portability by personell.

Well, to clarify, the show was sponsored by the magazine "Small Arms Review" in Phoenix Arizona. It is held at the fairgrounds and is a normal gun show in the majority of the buildings, but the large aircraft hangar size building is primarily for the SAR people, so really anything Ordnance related can turn up. People bring cannons to display outside. You see everything from MK108 aircraft cannon to machineguns and suppressors to live miniguns. Although it doesn't even hold a candle to the Beltring show that you gents post photos of every year. The only war we have ever had on the continent was the civil war, so we never see the quantities and variety of Ordnance that you guys in Europe see.
