A recent purchase and salvage job, to find the case under the (fortunately preservative) coral casing.Yet to be polished, but nice even like this, note the base inking.
Apart form the nice clean unpitted case i also got a primer safety clip as a bonus, the primer was from an earlier 'ashtray' salvage!

Hi Bob,

How do you remove the "coral" casing. I have a 3 pdr in a similar state, although i admit i quite like it as found.

Cheers

Gary

Just immersed it in a weak solution of hydrochloric acid(spirit of salts) and occasionally agitated the mix.
Only took a few hours.
I also got a partly cut down 4" naval shell in the same condition, but apart from cleaning the base have left as is.
