3 Pounder 2cwt (or substitute) Projectile

I've already placed a formal wanted post to advertise my interest in acquiring a suitable projectile for a 1926 dated 3pdr 2cwt case.

Failing that, what else is potentially out there that would fit the case - real or repro? Other British 3pdr projectiles? Will a WWII 6pdr tank shell fit? Grateful for any leads or suggestions.

Thanks,
Mark

fortunately there are all kinds of 3 pdrs about. Vickers, Hotchkiss, Nordenfelt and US makers, among the most common. The problem is finding one which is right one for the case. what are the markings, if any, one your case?

Is your case a special 3pr Tank round ? If so the projectile might be special ~ Navy 3 pdrs are one thing, an Army projectile might not be easy but others here know much more than I do about this.

Pic attached of the headstamps. I understand the more obvious markings, but if someone could fill me in on the ones between 6 and 9 o'clock and the ones on the primer I'd be grateful. It measures 350x47mm, so I think it's a standard size case. 10 in a junk/curio shop in Topsham in Devon - needed a clean though.

Presumably there are various 47mm projectiles out there which would look roughly right for display?

Hey guys.

I have been wanting to ask.

Regarding the US, 1-6 pounders; is there a detailed source explaining the markings on projectiles and casings other than the congressional ordnance reports, etc. found on Google books?

350 mm is the length of the rare tank gun case. The standard case measures 376mm.

Hi,
To forestall any further sale offers on this, it has been sold to a fellow forumite who made me an offer I couldn't refuse. ;)
Cheers,
Mark
