I cannot speak for the US, but I would not consider it scarce here, so they should be relatively easy to find in the US. Of course, it will not be so plentiful as one of the manufacturers who produced for longer periods.
The "U" headstamp was used from late 1942 to the closure of the plant in late 1943, and can be found with 1942,43 and 44 dates. They made AP, Ball, Blank, Grenade, Dummy and Tracer.
The early 1942 headstamp of "U T" is harder to find.
