30x113mm Dummies and Others

Have watched this great site for a while, first time posting. Mostly 30x113 dummies, except a few HEAT(?) rounds and two 30x100mm. Please awnser a couple of questions. What gun were these used on? Where did they come from? They have been ID stamped (?), AS 86, AS87, AS86/88, AS91. Are these dates? The two with the powders, is it igniteable and should the red one have a different fuse?Have a few headstamps, can post if needed. Thanks for your help. wolfgang

Nice group.

None of them is a HEAT round, the three with red insides look like different target practice rounds - they all have dummy fuzes. The fillings can be assumed to be inert material to get the weight right: no-one would section a shell with live HE in it, or put HE back afterwards. Those rounds appear to be steel-cased, in which case they may be French, for the DEFA aircraft revolver cannon (brass-cased ones would be for the British Aden aircraft revolver cannon, light-alloy cased for the M230 Chain Gun used on the Apache helicopter).

The 30x100 rounds are entirely different even though they look similar: they are for the experimental WECOM gun as fitted to the AH-56 Cheyenne experimental attack helicopter. Never used in service (the M230 was selected to do that job instead).

The black projectiles look like common US inert types used in experimental aircraft cannon in the 1950s and 60s.

There would be no reason for them to have sequential stamps like that, unless those were put on later to identify them in a collection.

Thanks Tony Williams and Harley. Since they are all steel cased, must be French. Picked them up at an auction pretty cheap, but don't collect anything of this size. Glad no explosions will take place, atleast be able to clean out and replace the red. Good info, great site. wolfgang
