35 X 185 case

Attached are a couple of photos of a 35 X 185 case next to a 25 X 137 KBA case for scale. There is no headstamp but I understand it was developed in the early 1990's. Its listed in one of the cartridge lists as a Rheinmetall Cylindrical.
Does anyone have any further information on this round and examples of projectiles that go with it?

I have a case and a quasi/apds projo I will need to photo for you. I heard they were for an armored fighting vehicle. I got mine at a gun show 20 years ago. There is a new version out there being tested recently, but I haven't seen a photo.

Hello Dave,
the one I know is called 50x228 for the experimenatl Rheinmetall Rh 503. The head of the case was more or less from the 35mm x228.
All can bee seen at the Wehrtechnikmuseum close to Nrnberg.

I've taken a photo of the 35 x 185 and the 50 X 330 RH-503 supershot case for comparison. Does anyone have any information about the projectiles in the 35mm one?

Dave, see item 585-1 in the January issue of The Cartridge Researcher, which has sectioned illustrations of the APFSDS and HE loadings, dating from 1985.

This does indeed seem to have been what it looks like - a "mini Supershot", intended to boost both the AP and HE performance of 25mm AFV guns by doing little more than fitting a new barrel. The HE shell in particular is huge, filling most of the case volume and thereby only intended to be fired at low velocity.

The head of the case was more or less from the 35mm x228.

Not more or less but exactly as it is an extended 35mm draw piece and the RH503 was able to fire the 35x228 and the 50x330 just by changing the barrel.
A sad example how leading developments are tied down by backward thinking people. Seeing the "new" 30mm NATO caliber in service for IFVs is a shame.
