A friend sent this picture, I have never seen owt like it. Aprox 37 to 40mm, drive band is iron. Any ideas? The item was NOT removed and it was reported to relevant authorities.
Ah 'MINENAZ16' beat me to it. Seems I was trying to put too much info and research into my reply.
From the look of it it's an earlier design 40 mm GPR-PD-T (General Purpose Round - Point Detonate- Tracer), GPR-AB-T (General Purpose Round - Air-Burst - Tracer), or a TP-T for the 40 mm CTA (Cased Telescoped Cannon).
Later models have short ogival nose tip ([FONT=&]≈[/FONT]2 c.r.h.) and not the hemispherical one seen in the image below, or one that you posted here.
