37 x 94R German Pom Pom Drill rounds (Found in South Africa)

Germany supplied the Boer Republics with twenty five 37 mm Pom Pom guns during the Anglo Boer War. The 37 mm gun also saw use in German South West Africa with later became South West Africa and which is now Namibia.

I recently acquired my first "local" 37 mm drill round. Sadly it was converted into a lamp with a hole drilled through it. The D W M stamp is still very visible.

I was also fortunate to see two other drill rounds in a friends collection one being similar to mine above.

Here are a few photos of two of the 37 mm guns at the Military Museum in Johannesburg. These originate from German South West Africa.

Never seen one of these before. Remarkable!

The 22 Boer guns were all made by Maxim-Nordenfeld in Britain and their cases were mostly unmarked - photo attached. British Boer War shells are marked VS&M or EOC as far as I know.

The German guns used in German South West Africa were DWM/Krupp licensed copies known as the 3,7cm Maschinekanone C/97. Their shells encountered in South Africa, mostly surrendered at Khorab in 1915, normally carry the German Imperial Navy markings as shown on your photos.
