This denotes the number of units the particular projectile deviates from the nominal weight. For projectiles 3.7" to 4.5" the unit was 1/4 lb. Thus the HE shell depicted is 1/2 lb over nominal weight and the smoke shell depicted is a 1/4 lb under nominal weight.
