4.7 inch Shrapnel Shell 1912

Saw this 4,7 inch Shrapnel shell in a friends collection. The item has been repainted, but I doubt that these are the correct colours. I also don't think that the nose cone is original.I would greatly appreciate the correct colour codes as I would like to do a refurbishment for him. Also any appropriate lettering would help me.



Any additional information would be welcome.

Very strange shape for a shrapnel round !

I think this shell is the same as the doc below :

Hello,

-First : markings on the base of your round 4.5in H VII A are curiosly the same as the HE shell described in the documentation. And same general shape.

-Second : a shrapnel shell with such a design woud be made with a head attached to the body by pins (not visible on your example)

-Third : look inside to see the wall thickness (thin for shrapnel)

Could suggest a very close look at the 1 in 12, it might be part of a 4 badly stamped.
