4" Mk. 16 Drill

Latest addition to the drill round collection. 4" Mk 16 Drill

I believe that the this drill round was made from a reworked star shell. The rim of the case has knurling as with the star shells. The primer is marked DUMMY and the fuze is a No 211 Drill fuze. the case has a wooden block which is used as a wooden distance piece. I suspect that this drill was reworked at the Simons Town Naval base (Cape Town, South Africa), hence the ST stencil.

Where was this case manufactured, B.P.F ? And is there any more I can read into the stencils?

A wonderful Drill cartridge Andy. Knurl is on star shells but also on Australian 17Pr Drill and 40mm Bofors Drill & maybe others too.
Edited. Also knurled rim on Australian 3" 20Cwt Drill rounds.
