I don't see any information regarding this cartridge, so forgive me if it is common and mentioned elsewhere.

Based on the markings found on the base, I assume this creature is a British MK III, 40mm Bofors Drill Cartridge made in 1944.

Is there in literature to be found regarding it?

Who is CPL?
