40mm L60 case

Krt7.92

I've got this steel, unfired case with no markings and no primer. It was in a batch with FN Herstal stuff.
Did FN made steel 40mm L60 cases? Or who could possibly made this?

Thanks

I can offer an opinion. I have a 90mm complete HE round, the projectile is crimped and assembled in the totally unmarked case, and the fuze is also unmarked except for the outer silver case. The HE projectile is marked. ( 1943). I bought it from an older guy who says his uncle worked in the Joliet plant during WW2 and took a few home. He stated many were given to employees, bond drives, museums. He said they gave away many of the ones which " failed dimensional inspection" and only the ones that passed QC were marked. I suspect your shell casing did not pass the dimensional checks, and was rejected...makes sense, no reason to add a manufacturing step to a rejected shell casing.

...I also have a few M78 Concrete Piercing fuzes, interesting lot, a few are totally unmarked , one is marked "CP, T105,.05 sec, 12-44" and a few are marked "CP, M78 .025 sec, 2-45. They came from a really old, old timer, who had a bucket full and lived in Joliet all his life.
