455 round - help needed re maker

Good Afternoon All

I have a cartridge which has the headstamp - WSC. 455
Initially I thought it had been made by the Wilkinson Sword Co. However, I cannot find that head stamp in the reference book I have. The case itself is quite shiny and new looking so I'm now having doubts. Can anyone help please ? Either by confirming that Wilkinsons did indeed make .455 ammo or by advising who WSC is/was , if not Wilkinsons.

Many thanks

James

Hi James,

Wilkinson Sword were military outfitters, mostly to the Officer class, and so did sell revolvers. As such, they also sold the ammunition to use in them, so I believe that they contracted with either Eley or Kynoch to make ammunition with their initials on. I don't think that they actually made ammunition themselves.

Roger.

Thanks very much Roger. I just couldn't find anything referring to the round in Peter Labbetts great work on British cartridges.
