.50 calibre Cigarette Lighter.

Whilst not really into trench art myself, I do have a few small items that I have picked up over the years and did always fancy a lighter but seeing them over the years none of them ticked the box for me until today when I picked this one up....nice and simple, no frills.

This thread prompted me to go find an item which I've had for 25 years or so. I found it in a house-clearance shop in Sudbury, Suffolk ; 8th Air Force country with Sudbury Airfield ( B-24s ) close by and Lavenham ( B-17s ) just up the road.
It's quite rough-and-ready and looks to be base-workshop made - I like the base of the lighter which appears to be a screwcap from an oil or fuel can.....

Great photos guys.

As we're sharing pics of lighters, here's one I have that is made from a 20mm Vulcan.

.50 lighter. Looks to be from the same as bockscars original post ,mine is without any markings on the mounting plug.
Spent a couple of hours today getting it going again, new wick, flint, and wadding plus a good degunk.Time was mostly spent trying to get the lighter mechanics out, turned out theyre just a simple bayonet fitting.
No markings on the plug but cartridge has L C 42

Here is my sample, that has been in the house for decades. For a very long time I thought, thatLighter .50 005 (800x404).jpgLighter .50 003 (800x767).jpgLighter .50 007 (510x800).jpg is was a badly made repro-cartridge. Only a few years back I realized it was a lighter. But, the wick I found inside just does not fit the small wickhole. This is a factory made item.
