There is a submarine base a couple of miles away, that's probably why the memorial is here.

Wow--really interesting. Lots of information here. Your pictures seem to be VERY thorough. Thanks for posting, as always.
 
Yes, it was a bit confusing, the 1st photo only shows one half of the walk, about 600 feet, I had to come back and retake some pictures because of a mild human traffic. My advice to anyone going to SD, stay at Liberty and take a $1.25 bus to downtown, takes about 10-15min.
