Great picture Jack

This is a 250kg with the Nose switch in place, now would the SD50 kg

with a Stabo spike be able to take the switch on the end of the spike

as standard as there were Stabos for the 250 aswell.

A picture of the 50 with the Nose switch would be Exellent:tinysmile_fatgrin_t

The Stabo spike whas to be used for the Railway tracks to penetrate the roadbed.

And sorry no photo of the SD 50 Kg

The Stabo SC 50 Kg or SD 70 Kg used a normal (55) fuze
The Stabo SC 250 Kg can use a (55), (17)A, (57) with the (50).
There whas also a Stabo 500 Kg.

I have just looked through what little reference I have and I can only find the Stabo being fitted to the SC50 or SD70 in the smaller class of bombs, no indication of it being fitted to a SD50 (as Madbomber has just posted).

Haven't enough info to hand though to say for definate that it wasn't used with the SD50?

....and as MB has already said nose impact fitted to 55A fuze.

Hope this helps Phil.

No photos, only drawings and reference to different legths of spikes, which you probably already have. (I know I have seen a photo somewhere, will keep looking)

Kev

FFA Fuze;

Satan,
i guess I am out of the loop on this fuze and switch. I have not seen one before.
Can you tell the Forum why the switch from normal fuzing. I believe I was taught about the rods for a surface burst but had no idea there was a nose switch. Was there a reason why the normal impact fuze would not achieve the same thing? - novice.

John aka Bart

This fuze is used in areas where there is a Swamp or Snow.
The V1 used the switch to in the Nose.

Hi John
I am still trying to see the wood through the trees myself.

The Stabo or Stachelbomben was a rod that was to go on to specially
shaped bombs.
The rod was to be made of the best possible steel and have a conicle
end to it that shrouded over the end of the bombs nose.
The bomb was to have a threaded snout on its nose hense the special shape and was for reinforcement.

The stabo was sharpened to a point aswell.
Normal impact fusing was used.

The bomb spikes would fit on to regular bombs in place of the nose screw, and were slightly inferior in manufacture to the stabos.

Both variants as Mad bomber pointed out were for maximum penetration
into hardened targets.
I am not sure whether they incorporated the nose switch on to the spikes
or stabos as again Mad bomber posted a 250kg without a spike and with a nose switch in place which would detonate the bomb above ground where they didnt want the bomb to bury itself.

hope this makes sense

best phil
