6 Pdr. Mark III

TonyE

HONOURED MEMBER RIP
Identification of this 6 pDr has been requested on another forum.

Whilst Broad Arrow marked it has no date and note the small anchor stamped over the "F" of "CF".

Not my area of knowledge really. Suggestions please.

Regards
TonyE

Tony,

Mark III case for the 6-pdr Hotchkiss gun, made by Kynoch. Ithink the anchor is an inspector's mark; it turns up quite often on these cases.

Roger.

Thanks Roger, I knew what it was but was interested in an estimate of the date as I don't believe it can be 1883 as it has the "CF" stamp.

Cheers

Tony,

Have seen quite a few like this, with no date, but also some with 1917 and 1918 dates. I don't know when the Mk.III case was introduced, but no doubt someone here can tell us, which will give the earliest date it might be. The next question is whether there are othe Mk.III cases with later dates, and when the Mk.IV case came in.

Having a couple of these cases, I will be interested to find out the answer!

Roger.
