60mm motar

Hi to all,
picked this 60mm IR illuminating nose cone up the other day,instead of the usual L number it is marked XL6-E1,now mortars are not my bag,but usualy a XL E number attached to SAA(my bag baby) is experimental,so.......................is this mortar experimental? can't find any info on the web about it,or indeed anything about UK Infra Red 60mm's(plenty of info about the U.S. versions)
Any ideas chaps?
