Received this case yesterday. 62 x 249 R. The base seems to match up with the 6 pounder Hotshkiss. It also has two "cuts" close to the mouth of the case.

What case is this? What was the original date of manufacture? If 1898 is the date of manufacture does this case a "left over" from the Anglo Boer War ?

Andy,

It is an early 3pdr BLANK, made from a full length 3pdr Hotchkiss cart. cut off for the purpose, the 2 opposing slots near the cart. mouth are for holding the closing disc for the cart. (to stop moisture & to keep in the contents).

Cheers, Ozzi.

Hi Ozzi,

Do you mean 6 pounder ?

6 pounder rim = 76 mm

3 pounder rim = 64 mm

Item in question = 76 mm

Kind regards,

Andy

An argentinean book is mentioning this case as a 47 mm Nordenfelt blank (rim 64 mm). I'am confused...

Andy,
Yeah sorry mate, it would be a 6pdr Hotchkiss BLANK, sometimes hard to pick the scale size from pics!
I should have paid more attention to your post!
Regards Ozzi.
