7.6 cm Wurfmine

I have a question about the German Wurfmine.

I all the documentation I have the length of a HE mine is 23.7 cm and the length of a chemical mine 24.7 cm. (I no that there are shorter and longer ones)

So, can I say for sure that if the mine 23.7 cm long I have a HE mine and if the length of the mine is 24.7 cm I have a chemical mine????????????

Or am I missing something in the documentation

Regards,

Chris

That may be making a pretty big assumption Chris. Generally it means only that the HE one in the photo was 23.7cm and the CW one 24.7cm. For the OCW guide we note in the beginning of the book that we photographed and included all available OCW, but not nearly all that was loaded. Check with the guys at Poelkapelle and Vimy, I suspect that they will tell you that there are some fairly normal lengths for each, but that they have seen many exceptions as well. We've seen the same with UK OCW and French as well, there was just too much experimentation and variation going on to establish many hard rules. Take the lengths as a guide, then judge by what you have in your hands. If you have one at 23.7cm and it sloshes...... Pete has contact info if you need it.

Jeff,

Thanks for your reply. I am trying to get some discussion on this subject and maybe some more info on the
Wurfmine.
I will try our southern friendster as well

Hello Chris,
I found a beginning of answer on your question :
Leichte Sprengmine 237 mm HE
Leichte Sprengmine (Lotte-Erna) 238 mm HE
Leichte Sprengmine 16a (Annaliese) 238 HE
Leichte Nebelmine (Flora) 247 mm SMK
Leichte Nachrichtenmine N 220 mm Berichtendrager
Leichte Propagandamine (Ida) 220 mm Propaganda
Leichte bungmine 237 mm Practice
Leichte Gasmine 247 mm TOX
Leichte Gasmine 275 mm TOX
Leichte Gasmine (B und C stoff) 275 mm TOX
Leichte Gasmine (D stoff) 275 mm TOX
Leichte Gasmine (weite kammerhulse) 248 mm TOX

So, you have now the dimensions of the Leichte Wurfmine I have in my Doc. Make your choice !

Chris,

I'm away at the moment, but when i get back i'll dig some info out and pop down. Do you have the latest OCW handbook?

Pete

You have a little problem with Flora (Nebel) and the Leichte Gasmine (first model). They are all two 247 mm.... and I didn't found an externally difference between the two ones! Oups!
So a 247 mm Mintje can be smoke or tox.
237 (238) mm is always HE.

To quick,
237 mm can also be practice but easy to identify. A crown of holes on the upper part of the shell, under the fuze hole.

I think I have one of these Leichte Nachrichtenminen 7,6 cm. See images. Length in this condition is a bit over 28 cm. What do I have here?
