77 mm German Drill. To clean or not to clean? That is my question

Andy Naude

Just received this 77 mm German Drill round. It is painted a matt green. Would this have been originally painted?

Should I clean it up or leave as is?~~

The cleaned Drill round I have seen else where on this forum, apologies for not giving credit to the owner.

The green coloured Drill is the one in question.

Hello Andy, I have 3 drill rounds and all three are painted or were painted a greenish / grayish color, and none is with the exact same color so yours may well be original paint. Sorry i can't post any pictures since I am away and don't have them with me.

I would leave it as it is, with it's nice old patina, and as said, with most likely, the original paint on it.

DO NOT CLEAN! It will spoil a nice piece with it's Original Patina.

Regards, DJH
