Many of these guns (L/30 and L/35) were installed on torpedo boats and also on larger vessels for close defense. Only a few submarines were equipped with the less powerful guns, many other submarines had 8,8 L/40, 10,5 or even 15 cm Guns installed. Remember that the L/30 and L/35 guns were obsolete before the first submarines entered service.
I can't imagine that such a gun was used in spanish civil war, but who knows. This case was produced in 1899 and reloaded three times and has still the original primer screwed in - no this one was not used after 1st WW...
