88mm WW2 APCBC HE Projectiles

Pictured are a couple of 88mm APCBC projectiles for the Flak 18 and family. The complete round with base fuse (inert) is the type more commonly found. The second projectile has a far smoother construction to the ballistic cap. Is this merely a result of aggressive sanding or an earlier form of the projectile? The smoother profile does remind me of the construction of the projectiles for the AP 7.5cm KWK L24 gun. I purchased the projectile on the basis of being able to remove the cap structure to reveal the core AP element, as always glad to have your comments.
