Howdy All,

Hope you all made it safely home with your new goodies from Beltring!!

I have a query about 9.5" DCT (Depth Charge Thrower) carts?

I know they were made from 2pdr Vickers cases but what is the correct case length for them?

I have seen full length 158mm, 105mm & 90mm long. The 90mm cart having a knurled rim.

Thanks,

Regards Ozzi.

Sorry dont know the answer to were there different lenthgs of case. The only ones I've ever seen have all been 158mm long but have the descriptive part of the headstamp as follows: 2PR I-III GUNS & 9.5IN DCT case dated 1918 or 2PR I&II GUNS & 9.5IN DCT case dated 1930, have also seen in this format a case marked I & II*GUNS. Yours seem to be in a different format as to marking...... curios.

More, 105mm with a milled rim is a sub cal length case on which there has been a number of detailed posts a while ago. 2pr

Thanks 2pounder, look forward to more info from BOCN.

Wonder if the different case lengths were different charges for distance??? (don't know if I want to be too close to a depth charge when it detonated!!!)

Dont know much about depth chargeing only what I've seen on the telly etc but the plan appears to be to fire a pattern over the targets position done by sending them off each side and rolling them off the ships stern. I think life would have been too complicated to have different case lengths for different positions or equipment on one ship. Might be biased but looking at different nationalities ordnance circa WW2 we British tended to keep things simple less chance of it going horribley wrong.
