I picked up this box a good year or so at an Antiques fair.

I believed this to be for the WW1 Vickers machine gun belts but wanted an opinion as not 100%. It clearly has a carrying strap missing from the top but what puzzles me is the painted bullets on the base. They look me like French Lebel rounds that British or even German rounds for that matter. Can anybody clarify for me please. It appear to have originally been painted dark green.
