Any ideas what this is? German bomb part? The ring with 6 holes is about 50mm diameter.

Could it be the lower part of the 2kg Incendiary bomb with separating explosive nose?

The holes in your photos look eliptical and the body square but this illusion could be the result of an explosion of the head??

Do you have any background to the piece?

Yes I agree it looks like the piece shown closeup in the 6th picture in the above link. If I remember correctly it came from Waff's bargain bin at Pudsey.
