Any Info on the 30mm GAU-9/A Round?

Here is a strange one I picked up this weekend...not much info out there that I could find on it, other than he GAU-9/A was a competitor to the GAU-8...

"considered the single-barrel 30mm Oerlikon 304RK cannon, also known as the KCA, but found it to be substantially less reliable. The sample 304RKs, which received the designation GAU-9/A, suffered, on average, one malfunction for every 900 rounds fired. The Avenger could shoot nearly 10 times as many shots without a stoppage."

The projectile is blue, since its TP....manufacture mark is RNO-2-1-72....

Case is marked "AMRON CASE 01, RNO-1-4-72"

It is in a link, which is marked, but I forgot to get a pic of it...and I'm on the road, so don't have access to it...

I haven't put it against any of my GAU-8 to see if the cases and OAL are the same...

Like I said, I really can't find much out there on the internet on this...but its an interesting round...percussion primed, not electric too.

Here are som pics....

The first detail about GAU-9 ammo that distinguishes it from GAU-8 ammo, is that GAU-8 is percussion primed, and GAU-9 is electric primed. That is how you tell them apart.
