Hi Everyone, I have recently bought this item, but are unsure as to its originality.:eek:oh:It measures 55mm in diameter & is 40mm high. It has a metal clip which attaches to the top.
Markings are as follows:

TOP: 11 84 A S

BOTTOM: MINE APERS PRACTICE F3
WITH FUZE INTEGRAL
PARTS MFD BY AFF

It's main construction is of plastic.
Does anyone know if this is actually the size of this mine, or have i got myself a really original keyring!!:tinysmile_cry_t4:

This is an Australian manufactured practice Apers land mine. It is the practice mine to simulate/practice the ANM14 APers landmine of US origin that was used by Australia up until Australia signed the Ottawa Convention. The AFF stands for Ammunition Factory Footscray in Victoria.

The mine was actually this size. I have attached a photo of the NM14 mine as reference. It was designed to blow off a foot and cause a casualty rather than kill, the intent being to load up the enemy medical system.

Thanks for your great info bombmonki, when it turned up i wasnt sure weather it was the real deal or not!

this mine usually carried a one ounce (28 gram) tetryl charge, in a slightly conical shape to provide a weak shape charge effect.

The M14 is known as the TOE POPPER for good reason its designed to incapitate not to kill , years ago in the TA we were taught not to kill but only to wound, it takes 1 to bury someone but 7? to nurse them back to health (my trade was Radio Operator)
