Bolts for Cox Templeton Submarine Gun/Driver

Thanks for clarifying, please let me know of it you have any of the rounds and possibly the old manuals. I bought two full Ex Admiralty No. 2 driver sets recently minus the field manuals and bolts.

Specifically for the manual, you could try the Royal Engineers Museum, Gillingham and/or the Defence Diving School,
West Bund Rd, Cosham, Portsmouth, PO6 4TT.

As an aside, Temple Cox Ltd., were mostly known for their captive bolt humane killers for livestock. Temple(s) did a lot of work in the US with various power operated devices for use in mines. One of them was responsible for the design of a rail punching device for use in the construction of railway lines.

Thanks for this post. I believe I now have 2 different lengths of these bolts.
I have to find where I put them but they were individually wrapped in brown waxy paper.
I had no idea what they were other than an explosive rivet. I will take photos if I find them.
 
Thank you @TimG for the thread pointer, really good stuff, I've tried getting in touch with Pommec, the company that was making new bolt guns. Fingers crossed we get somewhere.

@ron3350 please let me know if you find yours as I will still have them off you if you are wanting to sell.

Sorry but I am in Australia so sending items, if explosive? is forbidden.
Is there an explosive charge inside the bolt? I am not sure.
 
Yes, in their original condition, the bolts contain two explosive substances. The brass ‘head’ contains a percussion cap, which is struck by a firing pin, and a small amount of Nitrocellulose/Guncotton, which, once ignited, acts as a propellant for the bolt.

The department I’m familiar with recently had to secure – or rather, dispose off – a whole consignment of these bolts. This required some unconventional measures. I’m not sure whether the forum rules allow me to post a photo of it. If requested and permitted, I’d be happy to do so. We were able to hand over a small number of the bolts to a museum in northern Germany after carrying out the render-safe procedures.
By the way: I got the photo of the bolts from the forum (see TimG’s post) and have added red arrows. If this infringes any copyright I apologize (please remove it). Unfortunately, neither we nor the two museums we contacted have a manual for the „Cox-Gun“.

Hello @URG86-collector,

Thanks for the information, we are currently seeking clarification from the Victorian state in Australia on the legalities of using these bolts with the tool. Whilst I am glad that some have gone to a museum, tis a shame I couldn't have had the "ducks in a row sooner" to see if we could have done something.

Nonetheless, thank you for your input, and if possible I would love to see any footage/images you have of what was done to them.
