I have had this item for a number of years and thought it was time I got a definitive ID on it. I have always assumed it was to adapt French shells for aerial use, as the only thread fits those shells. Can anyone please advise age, and actual use?
Never seen this fuze.
Nothing in our books.
Uncommon yellow paint (!)
We had a lot of bomb fuzes with 24mm thread. This one seems to be made for special fitting (picture1). Not made to be screwed in a common gaine adapter, the body would exceed too much (picture2)
Certainly not aerodynamic! And of course the paint is not original, I will strip it back. There might be markings under the paint but not that I can see. Is there a reason to seat the fuze thread so deep into a bomb or projectile? I have attached a picture of the inside and det.
