`Elkins writes movingly and masterfully, the terror and vastness of the holocaust are personalised, and brought home to the reader.' `Stunning, superbly researched, harrowingly readable and written in a chilly, biting, sardonic style of irony and rage.' It is when you read this book that you realise the true meaning of the adage that for evil to succeed the good need do nothing. All countries, mine included, let down the Jews and after WW2 my country let them down again. There were small scale and isolated exceptions but it is small wonder that Jewish people feel they can only rely on each other to look out for themselves. This personalises what happened and should be read as a main addition to `The scourge of the swastika.'
