ive just noticed i have no onfo on the famous bouncing bomb, can anyone add any info and pictures...please
e.g what was its official title, sectioned drawings etc
The Wikipedia site is a good start: [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bouncing_bomb"]Bouncing bomb - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/Fileuxford_UK_Feb2005_bouncingbomb.JPG" class="image"><img alt="Duxford UK Feb2005 bouncingbomb.JPG" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c9/Duxford_UK_Feb2005_bouncingbomb.JPG/300px-Duxford_UK_Feb2005_bouncingbomb.JPG"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/c/c9/Duxford_UK_Feb2005_bouncingbomb.JPG/300px-Duxford_UK_Feb2005_bouncingbomb.JPG[/ame] although I have no idea how accurate the information is.
The only other info I have is that the bomb weighed 3900 kg, contained 2600 kg (5,720 lb's) of Torpex explosive detonated via three hydrostatic pistiols mark XIV.
I'm not sure if it ever had an offical title other than Bouncing or Upkeep bomb.
The book is called:
Bombs Gone, the development and use of British air-dropped weapons from 1912 to the present day.
Wing Commander John A. MacBean and Major Arthur S. Hogben.
ISBN 1-85260-060-8
Waff, The Germans recovered and defuzed the Bomb from Lancaster E-Easy which hit power cables near Haldern-on-Rhine and crashed with the lose off all crew.
Whats UK ord spotter?
It seems that there was no British produced manual for the bomb or release gear (the design kept changing and after the raid there was no need?)
All the info seems to come from the German bomb disposal organization.
