p1050351.jpgI saw this box in the tank museum beside the main road a few miles East of Carentan, Normandy. Note the old style swivelling steel hoops at either end of the lid, designed to ensure that the lid can't easily fall off. This arrangement was very common on many UK wooden ammo boxes.
