I am not sure if I posted this box before but it seems to have been an ammo box re-used for mortar fuzes.
24 No 162 Mk 4 Fuzes (for 3" mortars) filled by Thorpe Arch, Yorkshire on 11/56.
The top is stencilled: 762. L2A2. BDR/CHR3.
I guess this means 7.62 ammo in bandoleers of 3 chargers.
On the bottom is impressed: R.& H.W.Ltd. 1956 so it was re-used quickly as a fuze box. The fuze maker is not mentioned.

I'm guessing someone did a mix and match with the box and lid. It is likely that that type of intermediate container (H51 if I remember correctly) was authorised to contain mortar fuzes or 7.62 mm ammo, most likely in an H50 steel outer container. It is also possible that other natures of ammo were authorised in the same packaging. The British army had large numbers of the H50 and its intermediate wooden packages.
