Box M118: Contents?

A contact of mine has a couple of M118 MkI boxes, dated 1944.
They appear to have been painted cream with a red band around the middle.

Anyone know what originally lived in these long thin crates?

Looks Naval (Royal Navy) with the Buff colour and red band.Will look through my manuals and see what i can find.
