Hi Chaps,
My old pal Frank has got an ammo box as described in the title.
Looks like it still has compartments in where the mags were stowed, original webbing strap and in general good condition.
Part of the stencilling mentioned Mk1.
I can grab a pic later in the week, didnt have the camera at the time.
He is looking for a worth on it and i will bung it in the classifieds. :)

cheers

Boys

Can't help with value, but it was Capt. Boys the rifle was named after, not "Boyes" as it is so often wrongly spelled.

One of these cases sold at auction in Melbourne just recently. The case was good and had it's full compliment of Boys Magazines (8?). From memory it pulled almost Aust.$2000 (1200 pounds), in what was, I must say an auction that was in my veiw achieving ridiculously high prices.
Your friend's still has to be worth reasonable money even if emptly particularly if the stencilling is good.
PM me if he is serious about selling.
regards,
Peter.

For interest!

Wow 6.5! Never seen a Boys box before! Really nice! Question - does it still have the tiner liner in? I came across a mystery tin liner many years ago that I havent been able to identify. Its is definately British - 1942 dated. I have always thought I might be Boys. Its in storage at the mo, but I'll try and retrive it and post a pic!

Yes, I have a tin liner. Will dig it out as its with another box and stick a couple of pics on for you. From memory there is no date stamp on it though just on the outer box.

Being as you are so young, Mark, you will not remember back to the late 1970s when a lot of .55 Boys ammunition came back to the UK from the Portuguese army. This had been in their Macao colony according to the labels and was all in original British crates like that shown above.

It was the first time that Radway Green manufactured Boys ammo had been seen. Note the label on the one above says "RG cases".

Spot on Tony, just found a Macao sticker on one box. also too young to remember the 70's....or maybe............!

...well back on track with my pals box,i have a few snapshots.
It was made in my hometown back in 1941 by a firm called Evertaut(they have made office seating as far as i can remember). As most factories in ww2,they all ended up making something or other for the war effort. e.g. The firm my dad worked for(Crown paints and wallcoverings) also specialised in refurbing ammo boxes.
pics....

aha! the natives of Macao must have been (potentially) very unfriendly!

I'm 50 next Tuesday, so happy to be classified as young!

I must post the pic of my box - naturally I'd forgotten to do this...cant be old age!

:hmmmm2: well im very surprised about the lack of interest over this very nice box.
Nay mind,it looks like it is getting a new home in Australia very shortly.
