BP40 Stamp on 1917 6 Pounder

This week I de-dented the neck of a 1917 6 Pounder case for a friend.

The headstamp was the usual headstamp for an RL 6 Pounder from 1917. However, at the 3 O'Clock position, someone had stamped "BP40".

Does this mean that it was reloaded in 1940?

Thanks for any info.

Typically such a mark would indicate the monogram of a repairer (possibly Bull Point) and a batch number.
